STX Canada Marine / STX US Marine

STXM is a consulting naval architecture and marine engineering company established in July 1983 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of STX Europe ASA. The company itself has survived numerous ownership changes, the most recent being the evolution of STXM Inc. from Aker  Yards  Marine (AYM).

Following the purchase by STX Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. of controlling interest in Aker Yards ASA, the ownership of STX Canada Marine Inc. has changed to STX Europe ASA  and  on November 3, 2008, the company became STXCanada Marine and our US operation will become STX US Marine Inc. 

Prior to that, the restructuring in 2004 of Aker Kvaerner Shipbuilding resulted in our new ownership under Aker Yards ASA in Norway.

Since its inception, STXM has established an impressive client base, including shipbuilders, ship owners, ship operators and government agencies. The company offers professional design engineering and shipbuilding technology services to clients throughout North America and internationally.

To further augment its own capabilities and the range of services offered to the marine community, STXM acquired Polar Design Associates (PDA) in 1998. This merger brought with it significant expertise from the design and construction of small to medium size research and patrol type vessels as well as key personnel with a background in the use of the latest design and construction techniques.

STX Europe ASA

STXM is at the apex of a large body of technical resources available through its parent organization, STX  Europe ASA.   STX Europe ASA, formely known as Aker Yards, comprises 15 shipyars in Brazil, Finland, France, Norway, Romania and Vietnam making it one of the largest shipbuilders in the world. In addition STX Europe has three partly-owned yards is Germany, and Ukranie.  STX  Europe also owns companies that produce a wide range of ships' equipment.

STX Europe's operations are organized around three main business areas: Cruise & Ferries, Offshore & Specialized Vessels and Other Operations.   The group's head office is located in Oslo, Norway.

Perhaps the most valuable and unique asset, which STXM has as a result of its corporate affiliations, is the ability to access the data compiled from hundreds of ships built within the STX  Europe  Group.
